UniMaaS Vision
UniMaaS vision is to deliver a platform for flexible, agile, and decentralized manufacturing, embracing the MaaS paradigm.
The main goals of UniMaaS are mapped to key objectives (KO) which are related to the work programme topic and connected to the overall organization and workplan of the project, as well as to the key innovation results.

KO1: Formal Manufacturing Resources & Supply Chain Models
Develop dynamic models to optimize reconfigurable supply chains, merging hybrid systems with optimization. They adapt to demand shifts, resource changes, and analyze quality, efficiency, and ethics. Using switched and hybrid systems theory, we ensure minimal, flexible models for decentralized MaaS and Zero-X manufacturing.

KO2: Intent-based Servitization & AI-based Estimators
Align manufacturer capabilities with stakeholder demands through intent-based MaaS. High-level demands become policies via manufacturing models, while autonomous QA predicts supply chain issues and adapts. Trustworthy AI enables self-healing as intent evolves.

KO3: Secure Interoperability as a Service – Develop Trusted Manufacturing Data Spaces
Implement trusted management of manufacturing Data Spaces with secure APIs for real-time communication. The goal is to balance information disclosure and security. Using KGs, we’ll create a standards-driven data layer across factories. Embedded in EU-compliant spaces (IDSA, GAIA-X, BDVA), it supports EIDS and trust management (blockchain, verifiable credentials). DPPs track product life cycles, aligning with EU projects like CIRPASS and DATASPACE4.0.

KO4: Flexible Decision-Making in Planning, Resource Allocation & Scheduling Problems
Using KO1 and KO2 outcomes, we will integrate control theory, graph theory, combinatorics, and optimization to develop dynamic scheduling and resource allocation mechanisms for MaaS. Our Hybrid Systems approach captures event-driven and switching dynamics, combining logical and continuous decision variables to enable real-time adaptability. This moves manufacturing beyond static optimization toward agile, transient-aware decision-making, transforming MES into a dynamic and responsive tool.

KO5: Incorporate Circular and Sustainable goals in MaaS
Manufacturers need tools for resilient, sustainable resource and supply chain design. UniMaaS enables circular, multimodal planning for customized production, optimizing logistics for cost, time, and carbon footprint. It ensures economic (profit, circularity), environmental (lower emissions, waste, energy use), and social (work quality, safety, inclusion) sustainability.

KO6: Integration of Advanced Digital Technologies in MaaS
UniMaaS will use cloud/edge computing for service-oriented manufacturing in CMfg. Real-time cloud monitoring and DTs will enable autonomous decision-making, optimizing circularity and sustainability. Like cloud services, UniMaaS will (i) orchestrate modular software and manufacturing resources, (ii) integrate AI for resilient MES, and (iii) support customized service chains.

KO7: Evaluate the innovative components of the proposed UniMaaS platform, based on an extensive set of pilots in four different industrial and supply chain sectors
The project will evaluate UniMaaS in four pilot use cases: (i) aircraft maintenance, (ii) automotive seat manufacturing, (iii) 3D construction printing, and (iv) warehouse/logistics management. Performance will be assessed on unified modeling, decision-making, and resource orchestration. An early proof of concept will use the Intraflex platform, and a training program will support users with materials to validate and provide feedback.

KO8: Disseminate, communicate, and exploit the results produced from the project, and provide a business plan for the exploitation and sustainability of the platform;
UniMaaS will deliver exploitable results for SME and industry adoption. Exploitation pathways will include workshops, webinars, and training activities. An open-source version will build a developer community, ensuring sustainability. The compliance framework will monitor the project, ensuring alignment with EU standards. Data management will follow EC standards, with publications in high-impact journals and conferences.
UniMaaS is organized into three key Suites:
- Data Management Suite
- Modelling Suite
- Decision-Making Suite.
These Suites form the foundation of the UniMaaS Platform. As depicted, each Suite encompasses essential components that tackle the challenges of the core innovation domains.

A. The Data Management Suite
The Data Management Suite builds a data platform for manufacturing sectors, enabling secure, real-time data access across stakeholders. It supports cross-company data exchange, integrating cloud-based monitoring, and the Digital Product Passport (DPP) for product traceability. This suite ensures secure, efficient data management across the manufacturing process, enhancing sustainability and traceability.
Β. The Modelling Suite
The Modelling Suite forms the core of UniMaaS for modelling the entire manufacturing supply and value chain. It integrates formal, AI-based, and predictive modelling to enable agile and optimized decision-making. The suite dynamically adapts models, predicts demand and asset availability, and supports intent-based servitisation, helping the supply chain become more flexible, responsive, and sustainable towards Zero-X.
C. The Decision Making Suite
The Decision Making Suite optimizes decision-making within the UniMaaS Project. It includes Planning and Scheduling, which applies advanced Operations Research techniques, the Digital Twin (DT) for process simulation, CMfg Orchestration for managing virtualized resources, and the Circularity and Sustainability Optimizer to embed circular economy principles in manufacturing.
